Match day · NRG Stadium

A clean run from hotel
to the final whistle.

Built around a 4:00 PM local kickoff — the Houston group-stage slot. Shift every time with your own match, keep the order, and you'll glide past the bottlenecks instead of standing in them.

The timeline
11:30 AM
Fuel up
Brunch downtown, then pack light.
Eat a real meal now — stadium lines are long. Lay out tickets, ID, a portable charger, and an empty clear bag. Leave the backpack at the hotel.
1:45 PM
Move
Board the Red Line at Downtown.
Buy a day pass, ride south to Stadium Park / Astrodome. About 11 minutes on rails beats an hour in traffic — full routes on the Transit desk.
2:15 PM
Arrive
NRG Plaza & the fan festival.
Soak up the build-up — flags, food trucks, and the team buses. This is the part you'll remember; don't rush past it into the concourse.
2:45 PM
Enter
Through security and to your gate.
Gates open ~90 minutes pre-match. Have your mobile ticket bright and ready, clear bag open. The gate letter is on your ticket — match it to the side of the stadium nearest your section.
3:20 PM
Settle
Find your seat, then the essentials.
Locate the nearest restroom, concession, and first-aid point before kickoff. Refill water — NRG is air-conditioned but the day is long.
3:55 PM
Anthems
In your seat for the walk-out.
Teams emerge, anthems play, phones up. You made it with time to spare.
4:00 PM
Kickoff
90 minutes, plus whatever the night decides.
Note your section and row in case you step out. If anything goes wrong, the SOS desk is one tap away.
~6:00 PM
Out
Beat the crush — or wait it out.
The platform floods at full time. Either move at the 85th minute, or linger 20 minutes on the plaza and let the first wave clear before you ride back north.

Make a night of it

Midtown

Two Red Line stops back toward downtown — bars, patios, and late kitchens that stay loud after a result.

EaDo

Houston's soccer heart, home to the Dynamo. Breweries and taquerías within a short ride for the post-match rehash.

The Museum District

Right on the line if you want a quieter wind-down — green space, fountains, and easy hotels.
